Dyeing straw and silk
Hi gang,
Tonight we have been exploring some possibilities for using dyes in creative ways, after our session last year you will remember how we use different types of dye for different materials. It is a good idea to keep a notebook of your dye experiments in case you ever want to repeat what you have achieved.
If you are using parisisal you can use Direct dye and add a little salt. Olivia created a variegated capeline by painting on 3 different colours of dye onto a wet capeline. The results were impressive.
Lys dyed a piece of mixed fibre fabric (containing cotton) by putting it in a large jar with a more concentrated version of the dye and a bit of salt. The result was a very vibrant colour & is impressive.
Fiona spent her time researching dyes and came up with some wonderful things for her pinterest page. http://www.pinterest.com/fionacooper03/dye/.
The dyes we used all came from Kraftkolour, http://www.kraftkolour.net.au/. Remember the Landscape and the Direct are the ones to use.
The equipment we used includes rubber gloves, aprons, paint brushes, electric kettle, hotplate & jars.
